Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are likely to part ways with existing mentor Zaheer Khan ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. According to a report, the new mentor will handle more responsibilities in the new role, also overseeing RP Sanjiv Goenka Group (RPSG) Group’s other cricket franchises.
LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka, currently active in the UK for The Hundred, is reportedly expected to announce a Director of Cricket soon. The role will focus on year-round talent development for LSG as well as Durban’s Super Giants in SA20 and Manchester Originals in The Hundred.

Zaheer joined LSG as mentor in 2024 after Gautam Gambhir stepped down post-IPL 2023. He also served as bowling coach following Morne Morkel’s departure. Before LSG, Zaheer worked with Mumbai Indians from 2018 to 2022, first as Director of Cricket and later as Head of Global Development.
LSG had a mixed IPL 2025 season under captain Rishabh Pant, showing promise but lacking consistency. To address this, Bharat Arun was recently appointed as a key member of the coaching staff.
Speaking on his role, Arun said, “It’s an honour to join LSG. There is a clear intent to invest in young Indian talent and build a long-term legacy.” He praised LSG’s pool of young fast bowlers, including Akash Deep, Avesh Khan, Mayank Yadav, Prince Yadav, Mohsin Khan, and Akash Singh, and aims to develop them into a world-class pace unit.
LSG will announce their new mentor soon, aiming for a stronger IPL 2026 campaign.
