The 34-year-old top-order batter, eligible through his Edinburgh-born father, previously represented a Scotland Development side in 2016 before establishing himself in New Zealand domestic cricket with Central Districts. Bruce played 17 T20 internationals for New Zealand between 2017 and 2020, scoring 279 runs at a strike rate of 122.36, including two half-centuries. His last appearance came in February 2020 against India, and his return to Scotland marks his return to top-flight cricket after five years.

“There’s a long Scottish history within my family and I know they will be incredibly proud that I am representing Scotland on the world stage,” Bruce said. “I want to help the Scotland team achieve success, as I know the group is capable of doing.”

The squad for the Canada leg (29 August – 6 September in King City, near Toronto) also features the return of Somerset seamer Josh Davey, who last played at the 2022 T20 World Cup. Michael Jones, Brad Wheal, Scott Currie, and Michael English are among those missing due to work, personal, or county commitments.

Defending champions Scotland sit third in the eight-team standings, with 11 wins from 20 matches. They face Canada and Namibia, who are fifth and sixth respectively, aiming to strengthen their push for qualification after a disappointing European T20 World Cup qualifier campaign.

    Scotland squad:

Richie Berrington (captain), Tom Bruce, Matthew Cross, Brad Currie, Josh Davey, Jasper Davidson, Chris Greaves, Jack Jarvis, Michael Leask, Finlay McCreath, Brandon McMullen, George Munsey, Safyaan Sharif, Charlie Tear, Mark Watt.
