Former Sri Lankan legend and Rajasthan Royals’ Director of Cricket, Kumar Sangakkara, has reportedly shown interest in joining the Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) support staff ahead of the IPL 2026 season. Sangakkara, who has been with RR since 2021, has been instrumental in guiding the franchise to consistent playoff appearances and shaping their team identity.
KKR, the defending IPL champions, have been revamping their support structure following a disappointing IPL 2025 season. While Chandrakant Pandit continues as head coach, changes have been made to their support line-up: Dwayne Bravo remains in a mentorship role, Ottis Gibson joins as an assistant coach, and Bharat Arun continues as bowling coach. Sangakkara’s name is emerging as a potential addition to balance KKR’s technical leadership and mentorship.

While discussions have reportedly taken place, neither Sangakkara nor the franchise has officially confirmed these reports. As the IPL 2026 auction approaches, fans and analysts alike will watch closely for any formal announcements from KKR regarding their coaching line-up.
